Looking after your jewelry

At Antonio Bernardo, we are committed to the quality of our pieces, and we provide our customers with all the information they need to maintain and care for their jewelry. In addition to advising you on the usual care that needs to be taken when you wear each piece, we will be happy to advise you on the professional procedures necessary to keep your jewelry looking its very best.

How to take care of your gold jewelry

Antonio Bernardo’s gold jewelry is made of 18k Gold - Yellow, Rose and White. The Pure Gold content (75%) is the same in all of them. Clean your jewelry with a soft-bristle brush under running water and pat dry with a soft cloth. If the result is still not satisfactory, bring your jewelry to one of our stores for a professional assessment.

How to take care of your silver jewelry

Antonio Bernardo’s silver jewelry is made of a metal alloy internationally known as Sterling Silver - 925, which means that it is made of 92.5% pure silver. Clean your jewelry with a soft-bristle brush under running water and pat dry with a soft cloth. If the result is still not satisfactory, bring your jewelry to one of our stores for a professional assessment.

Tarnishing

When in contact with air, silver and copper (a metal present in most gold alloys) may undergo a chemical reaction known as tarnishing. This may result in a change in the original color of the jewel. This alteration, however, does not represent a change in the quality or content of the alloys. It is a natural and superficial alteration that happens, to a greater or lesser extent, because of factors such as proximity to the ocean, the PH of the skin, or how the jewelry is stored when not in use.

How to take care of your jewelry with diamonds

The beauty of diamonds lies in their brilliance, transparency and their “fire” of colored sparkles. Regularly cleaning and taking proper care of your diamond will ensure its beauty and sparkle for years to come. We recommend cleaning the diamond after wearing it, by rubbing it gently with a soft bristle brush in lukewarm soapy water.

In addition, even though diamonds are the hardest known natural material, they should be protected from impact and from contact with other diamonds to avoid damage or scratches to the stones. Jewelry with diamonds should therefore be stored separately from each other and from other pieces.

How to take care of your pearls and other organic gemstones

Pearls require proper handling care. Contact with perfumes and creams should be avoided, as well as contact with water. Also, keep pearls away from contact with other jewels. When handling the piece, it is advisable to hold it by the metal part. We recommend wiping the pearls gently with a soft, damp cloth, and never using any type of brush.

Strands of pearls and of other gemstones

Strands of pearl and of other gemstones should be restrung once a year. If worn regularly, they should be restrung every 6 months.
